Storm damage & insurance claims
Hail and wind are the most common reasons a Minnesota roof gets replaced early. Here's exactly how it goes with us, from the first call to build day.
Book a storm inspection now. Calendars fill fast after a big one, and we go in the order people call.

Five steps, start to finish.
Most storm jobs go from the first call to a new roof in two to five weeks, depending on how fast the insurer moves.
- 1Day 0
Call or book
Tell us the date of the storm and what you've noticed. Leaks get a tarp first.
- 2Within 48 hrs
Free inspection
We check every slope, vent, gutter and the siding, and photograph everything we find.
- 3Your call
You decide on a claim
You get the photo report. If it shows real storm damage, you open a claim with your insurer.
- 4About 1 to 3 wks
Adjuster meeting
We're on the roof when your adjuster comes and show them each hit we found.
- 51 to 2 days
Build day
You pay your deductible, insurance covers the approved scope, and we replace the roof.
Look from the ground
Signs of hail and wind damage.
You don't need a ladder to spot most of these. If you see any, book an inspection and stay off the roof.
Bruised shingles
Soft dark spots where the hail knocked granules off. Press one and it feels like a bruise on an apple.
Dented vents and caps
Soft metal on top of the roof shows hail first. Round dings on vents mean the shingles took hits too.
Granules in the gutter
A pile of sand-like grit at the downspout after a storm. That grit is the roof's top layer.
Split or missing shingles
Wind lifts tabs, breaks the seal and pulls them off. Look for shingles in the yard or bright patches up top.
What we do
- Free storm inspection with a dated photo report
- Tarp active leaks the same or next day when we can
- Walk the roof with your adjuster and show every hit
- Give you an itemized written estimate, as Minnesota law requires on insurance jobs
- Send the insurer our photos and estimate if something was missed
- Build to the approved scope and send completion photos
What we won't do
- × Pay, cover or waive your deductible. Minnesota law (Minn. Stat. 325E.66) bars it.
- × Act as your public adjuster or negotiate your claim for you.
- × Ask you to sign anything at the door before you've seen the report.
- × Call it storm damage when it's just an old roof.
Questions we get
Storm claim FAQ
Your policy has the final word. Your agent can tell you exactly what yours covers.
How long do I have to file?
Your policy sets the deadline, and they differ, so ask your agent or insurer. Either way, don't wait until spring if you can avoid it.
Will a claim raise my rates?
That's a question for your agent. Minnesota law doesn't let a roofer advise you on your coverage, and every insurer handles it its own way.
What if the adjuster says there's no damage?
We'll tell you honestly if we think they missed something. Your insurer can tell you what your options are. If the roof just isn't storm damaged, we'll say that too.
Do Class 4 shingles lower my premium?
Several insurers in Minnesota offer a discount for impact-resistant roofs. We'll give you the paperwork your agent asks for.
Can you start before the claim is approved?
We'll tarp and stop active leaks right away. The full replacement waits for the approved scope so you aren't stuck with a bill.
